How it works

Effective plastic volume blends a shell baseline with the selected infill fraction. Flow is line width times layer height times print speed; dividing volume by flow gives base time, then fixed overhead multipliers produce a range.

  • Fifteen percent infill, 0.4 mm nozzle, and 50 mm/s are starting values.
  • A range communicates omitted motion and cooling time.

When to use this

Print-farm queues, overnight planning, and pre-slicer job comparisons estimate duration.

Edge cases

  • Travel and acceleration make actual time longer than volume-only time.
  • Many shells can dominate time at low infill.
  • Changing nozzle width changes both assumed path area and flow.
