How it works

Chart stitches divided by stitches per inch give the finished inches, which multiply by exactly 2.54 for centimetres. The chosen blank margin is added to both opposing edges and each cutting dimension rounds upward to a whole centimetre.

Formula
finished centimetres = chart stitches ÷ effective count per inch × 2.54
  • Zweigart labels 54 Aida stitches per 10 cm as 14 count per inch and distinguishes fabric threads from completed stitches.
  • Margin is required from the hoop, finishing, or framing plan rather than assumed at 7.5 cm.

When to use this

Aida charts use stitches per inch, over-two evenweave projects halve thread count for effective stitch count, and framed pieces add a chosen blank border before cutting.

Edge cases

  • Twenty-eight-count evenweave stitched over two threads has an effective count of 14 stitches per inch; entering 28 halves the reported design size.
  • A 7.5 cm margin adds 15 cm to width and 15 cm to height because blank cloth is needed on both sides.
  • Cut dimensions round upward to a whole centimetre so numeric rounding never removes part of the selected border.
